WHAT IS SHARIA
Sharia Law is Islamic Law.
Literally translated it means "the path" or "the way" as in "the path for Muslims to travel".
Sharia Law is held by Islam to be “divine law” (Allah's law).
Sharia Law is derived from the Koran and the teachings and example of Mohammed.
These teachings/examples are set out in the Islamic scriptures (the Koran, the Sira and Hadiths).
Sharia Law is codified in manuals.
The most commonly referred to manual of sharia in Sunni Islam is Al-Misri's 'The Reliance of the Traveller' compiled in the 14th century.
Sharia Law deals with Islamic concepts of crime, politics, economics and social order.
Sharia Law also deals with personal matters such as sexual intercourse, hygiene, diet, prayer, everyday etiquette and fasting.
Interpretations of Sharia vary slightly between cultures, but in its strictest definition it is considered the infallible law of Allah.
Sharia regards human law i.e. Western Common Law etc, as blasphemy (rule by man and not by Allah).
